Really flattering dress, perfect for summer

This dress is really cute. The fabric is thin but not see-through. I didn't want it to be too short so I ordered a 12 (I usually wear a M or a size 8, I'm 5'8" 155 lbs) but it was much too big for me so I had to return it. The design is really nice, very different and flattering. I imagined myself trying it on in a size 8 - the back has an elastic gathering which delivers a cute waistline with a feminine skirt. But then realized I was shopping for a casual dress and this dress, although a casual material, looks too sharp to wear to a summer BBQ. Unless you live on the east coast. West coast, not so much, sadly.
